Help with Drum Tuning?

Now I am a very bad drum tuner(er), and I would love to be able to play drums that sound right. I cant get them to ever sound very good (no matter how well you play you cant make them sound good). I was thinking of getting one of those drum dials to help, but I don't know how well they work. First: can someone offer any opinion on the drum dial, and Second: If they do work, does anyone know a good way to get a sort of Bonham-esque sort of sound, Like what tension to use. Any help is much appreciated. For reference my drum's sizes are a 14"x5" snare and 10"x8", 12"x9", and 14"x12" toms, and a 22"x16" b drum.
