if you are concerned then yes just lift and look do not touch as mom may not take care of the baby. Also if it is first time mom she may have not known how to care for baby properly and if you find it ped on then do not be surprised if she chewed head. Sorry to say and really trying not to be to graphic or traumatize you but it is part of nature for them and she also needs calcium and protein more so now in her diet.
