Anyone else think we need to plan and think about stuff like Cloverfield?

Okay so with the gripping, first person view of the movie Cloverfield, does anyone besides me think we need an evacuation plan for this kind of thing? If something like this were to happen, how would you react? What would the leaders of Amercia do? How would we respond to this? Would we capture it and keep it alive to exploit it to the world? Or would we kill it and dump it's body in the ocean? Would this be something the US gov would allow us to remember, or instead just try to not mention it ever? Yes the possibility of a giant monster attacking us is slim but you'll really know what can be out there. Atleast a simple evac plan is necessary. I'd hate to see everyone in some city running and rioting and seeing this big monster destroying everything, and it's then I would point at all of y'alls faces and say, "I told you so".
