Isn't Buddhism properly understood very antithetical to western atheism?

Buddhism is full of the supernatural. Reincarnation is a basic tenant. They believe in gods, just not creator gods. They believe that the self doesn't really exist. In Asia, they worship a multitude of gods and even have hell realms, which are depicted on the temple walls to scare people. Do some atheists have misconceptions about Buddhism?
